Melissa Cavanaugh

Art, Science Fiction & Science Collide

Several years ago, I saw a large image comprising many small images. It was Darth Vader, and the images were all very small pictures from scenes in the Star Wars films. A TV show, called "Chuck" uses the idea based on this kind of imagery. Conventional wisdom maintains that we all use about 10% of our brains, leading people to try to find ways to use more of our brain capacity. The most commonly suggested method is subliminals. Audio CDs abound which offer the ability for you to learn while you sleep. But what about images? Chuck is pretty normal guy until he accidentally sees thousands of images which are encoded with the combined intel of the CIA and NSA. Looks a lot like a really complicated version of one of those mosaic prints, like the image of Darth Vader. And maybe there are other forms of artwork that have the potential to be used scientifically subliminally transfer information into the other 90% of our brains. I think the idea is pretty fascinating. It doesn't hurt that I get to work in my favorite tv show.
